The NT/90 Bible Challenge: August 23 - November 22
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...
What is the NT/90 Challenge?
For the 90 days leading up to Thanksgiving, we are challenging each other to engage in five vital practices that typified the early church. These include:
WORSHIP: Make worship a priority.
READ: Read through the New Testament in 90 days!
CONNECT: Meet with others to discuss what you’re reading.
PRAY: Make prayer a daily practice.
SERVE: Do one act of service that will challenge you.
Who is invited to participate?
Everyone! We want church members, neighbors, and community members, both young and old, to be a part of this exciting challenge.
Why begin the Challenge in the middle of August?
The start date allows us to finish the challenge before the busy Thanksgiving & Christmas seasons.
Whose idea was it to try this challenge?
Several churches in Shenango presbytery are doing Bible reading challenges this year, and we are excited about what God will do through this challenge. Your Session members have given their full support to the challenge and have already signed-up to participate! Please join them!
How long will it take to do the Bible readings every day?
You’ll be reading about four chapters each day, which takes between 10 to 20 minutes depending on how quickly or slowly you read.
What materials do I need in order to participate?
You need a Bible (or a copy of the New Testament) and the NT/90 Challenge Reading Guide. We have free New Testaments available on the display table in the sanctuary. Free Reading Guides available on this page.
Can children participate?
Absolutely. For all students who can read, we have created a Student Reading Guide that parallels the Adult Reading Guide.
Do I have to join a discussion group to participate?
We believe the Bible is meant to be read and discussed in community. Opportunities to join a discussion group will be made available, and all the weekly discussion guides will be posted on our church’s website. However, if you would like to participate in the challenge but do not want to join a group, you may do so.
Will the NT/90 Challenge connect with our Sunday morning worship services?
Yes. Our Sunday morning Bible readings will be passages from the previous week’s Reading Guide. Our pastor will preach a sermon based on one of the weekly Bible readings.
Why are Worship, Prayer, & Service part of the Challenge?
Our goal is to expand this challenge beyond the discipline of reading our Bibles. We want you to make the worship of God a priority in your life, setting an example for your family & friends. Also, we want you to pray daily, and we’re going to provide you guided prayers throughout the challenge to assist you. Finally, we want you to participate in a selfless act of service for another person.
What if my work & family schedules don’t allow me to make this a priority, and I am unable to complete the challenge?
This is a valid and understandable concern, and most of us share them to some degree. That is why this is a challenge. But what if God uses this time to transform this church? What if we are all called into deeper relationship with God and with one another? This will be a challenge, we can guarantee it. We can also guarantee that you will never regret stepping out in faith and making this a priority in your life for 90 days. We are in this together. We’re all in. Take the plunge with us. Through Christ, we are going to witness something great!
Will we get a chance to celebrate at the end of this challenge?
We will have a celebration Sunday, Nov. 22, the last day of the challenge.
What if I have more questions that haven’t been answered?
Please send an email to the church office: firstname.lastname@example.org We’ll be glad to help clarify any questions you have.
