Stoneboro Presbyterian Church

Our History...

The original church building built in 1883.

The Stoneboro Presbyterian Church congregation was organized with twenty members on November 18, 1878, in of all places...the Stoneboro Methodist Church. The first church building was dedicated in November, 1883, and the first full-time pastor for the congregation became a reality in 1921. On November 29, 1923, the congregation met with great loss. Shortly after the conclusion of the community Thanksgiving service, the church building, with all its contents, burned to the ground. The Sunday following the fire, Rev. Douds preached on the text from Isaiah 1:10, "The bricks are fallen, but we will build of hewn stone."

Remains of the old ruins were soon cleared away and excavating for the new foundation was started in August, 1924. On September 14, 1924 the cornerstone of the new church was laid. The first services were held in the uncompleted structure on June 14, 1925 (Children's Day) with 282 people present. The completed building was dedicated on October 31, 1926.

Through the years of Stoneboro Presbyterian Church, many members, visitors, pastors, and ministries have come and gone, but they have all shaped who we are today.

So who are we? We are a 100-member church striving to follow Jesus and love and serve our small Stoneboro community the best we know how. If you are ever in the area, stop by and see us. You are always welcome.

"Our church is a rich heritage of willing hands, enthusiastic worship, and devoted lives. God has richly blessed this outpost of Christ's Church at the corner of Linden and Franklin Streets, in Stoneboro, Pennsylvania, and we thank Him for each and every gift."
